Hi, I’m Xolani

A specialist psychotherapist and psychotherapeutic coach with well over a decade in clinical practice. My extensive experience is grounded in a deep commitment to understanding and addressing the complexities of trauma and true healing. I have dedicated my career to understanding and mastering how to effect change and growth in the lives of the people I support in my work.

But what most sets me apart is that I know what it’s like to feel held back by the past, to have big dreams but not feel like they’re possible and to feel paralysed by trauma. After being in the trenches of life, I did my inner work to overcome my own traumas and bring about my own healing. This journey has given me a profound empathy and insight into the healing process, allowing me to connect deeply with my clients. I understand trauma from both a clinical and personal perspective, offering a blend of “innerstanding” and expertise. And that’s powerful.

In my practice, I provide a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their past, understand their present, and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. My approach is compassionate yet firm and effective, helping my clients find deep healing and lasting change.

Trauma Specialist

I deeply understand how trauma can impact our everyday lives, often in unexpected and profound ways. Trauma can shape our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, creating challenges that may feel overwhelming and insurmountable. It can affect our relationships, work, and overall sense of well-being, making it difficult to move forward and live a fulfilling life.

Understanding Trauma

Trauma is not just about the events that happened to us, but also about how these events are processed and stored in our minds and bodies. It can manifest in various forms such as anxiety, depression, flashbacks, or a pervasive sense of fear and unease, or in much more subtle ways. These responses can be triggered by seemingly unrelated situations, causing distress and confusion. This is where working with a specialist such as myself, can really help to shift things for you.

If you are seeking a space for positive change, emotional well-being, and a life that matches with your true self, then you’re in the right place.

Healing and Empowerment

Through our work together, we aim to transform the pain of trauma into a path of healing and empowerment. By addressing and understanding the root causes of your distress within both the individual and systemic context, our work together can develop effective strategies to cope with and overcome the challenges you face. This process not only helps in reducing the immediate symptoms but also fosters long-term resilience and growth.

Building a Better Future

Healing from trauma is a journey, and I am here to support you every step of the way. My approach is compassionate, non-judgmental, and collaborative, ensuring that you feel heard, understood, and valued. Together, we will work towards breaking free from the past, so you can live more fully in the present and build a hopeful and empowered future.

My Approach

As a psychotherapist, I utilise a psychodynamic approach to help clients explore the complexities of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. This method delves into the unconscious mind and examines how past experiences influence present-day challenges.

The psychodynamic approach goes beyond merely treating surface-level symptoms, and explores the deeper layers of experiences. The focus is on uncovering root causes and underlying patterns contributing to present struggles, whether stemming from past traumas, unresolved conflicts, or unconscious beliefs.

This process involves shining a light on hidden aspects of the psyche to bring clarity and understanding to current challenges. The aim is to make sense of how past experiences continue to influence thoughts, emotions, and behaviours in the present, and then change them.

The approach is not just about addressing symptoms but about creating meaningful and lasting change at the foundational level. By healing these root causes, the path to profound transformation and growth is paved.

Every name holds a story - a narrative that speaks to the essence of who we are and what we aspire to be. And at the heart of my practice lies a name steeped in meaning and purpose:

Derived from the Zulu language, Xolani meaning peace and reconciliation is more than just a word—it's a declaration of my mission and values.

Peace: Rooted in the belief that there is always a way back to harmony. and that within every individual lies the innate capacity for inner peace and wholeness. My approach is built upon the knowledge that peace is not just the absence of conflict, but a profound state of being that arises from the alignment with one's true essence.

Reconciliation: This is central to my mission — the process of acknowledging and integrating all aspects of oneself, including past traumas, emotions, and experiences. By creating a safe and non-judgmental environment, I support my clients in exploring their inner landscape, healing from past wounds, and reclaiming their sense of wholeness.

Xolani’s Myers Briggs personality type: INFJ

“INFJs are thoughtful nurturers with a strong sense of personal integrity and a drive to help others realize their potential. Creative and dedicated, they have a talent for helping others with original solutions to their personal challenges.

The Counselor has a unique ability to intuit others' emotions and motivations, and will often know how someone else is feeling before that person knows it himself. They trust their insights about others and have strong faith in their ability to read people. Although they are sensitive, they are also reserved; the INFJ is a private sort, and is selective about sharing intimate thoughts and feelings.

INFJs have a profound respect for human potential and a deep interest in understanding the mind. Because of this, they are motivated to pursue authentic self-development and strive to live up to their true potential, while encouraging and guiding others to do the same. According to idealistic INFJs, if we believe in our ability to accomplish the extraordinary, the extraordinary will instantly become a possibility — “dream it and you can achieve it,” as the saying goes. However, because of their integrity and empathy for others, it is uncommon for INFJs to cut corners or hurt others to achieve their desired future state.

For INFJs, obstacles exist to be overcome and no problem can outmatch the strength and resilience that these types possess deep inside. INFJs follow through on their ideas with conviction, and have the willpower and decisiveness necessary to see projects through to the end. INFJs live for the opportunity to solve problems and bring about positive change in the world.

INFJs are typically wonderful listeners and deep, insightful thinkers when it comes to personal problems. They have a high degree of intuition about people and a deep well of patience in dealing with sticky emotional situations. All of these qualities make them talented, compassionate counselors, social service people, and religious workers.

Ideal careers for INFJs include:

  • Clinical Psychologist

  • Counselor or Therapist
